Dr. Lampl is a physician-scientist with research focused on human growth and development. Her landmark work established the saltatory nature of growth - confirming that humans grow in 'spurts' versus a continuous, uninterrupted pattern. Current studies center on the mechanisms of growth and influencing factors, both genetic and environmental, and investigate the nutritional, immunological, and hormonal networks that interact with behavior to influence the growth process.

In 2011, Dr. Lampl launched a multidisciplinary cross-university Center for the Study of Human Health. The unique College programs deliver curricula in which faculty and professional leaders from the university and beyond deliver leading-edge experience on the issues and opportunities facing health today.

Dr. Lampl presently collaborates with scientists internationally on projects related to fetal and infant growth. Research includes projects with the Perinatal Research Branch, NICHD, and David Barker, University of Southampton, UK. She has authored over 100 research publications.

Lampl is co-director of the University's strategic plan for Predictive Health and Associate Director of Predictive Health and the Center for Health Discovery & Well Being. She has launched the Predictive Health & Society minor for the college and is on the faculty for the Molecules to Mankind graduate program.

Michelle Lampl was elected an AAAS fellow in 2010. She is a recipient of the Emory Williams Award for Outstanding Teaching.
