Biography

As soon as she read "Fog on the Barrowdowns" in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, Emily knew she wanted to be an archaeologist. A study abroad trip to Scotland, an internship with the National Park Service and a fieldschool in Greece reinforced this passion for the stories of the past. Emily completed her BA in Classics and Anthropology at Austin College, her MA in Archaeology at Cornell University, and most recently, a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies as well as her PhD in Anthropology/Archaeology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Emily's dissertation focused on exploring the expression of intersectional social variables (especially age, gender, social role and status) in early Iron Age mortuary contexts in Central Europe. Outside of academia, Emily enjoys historical fencing, blacksmithing, hiking, and photography.
