Research

Adrian’s work focuses on oral histories, identity, and placemaking by Black Americans on islands and in coastal tourism spaces in New England, as well as the intersections of Black feminism and environmental studies. She intends for her work to reclaim narratives of Black resilience and highlight the duality of the Atlantic Ocean as both a site of trauma and joy for the African Diaspora. Adrian has worked as an environmental justice organizer, youth farm educator, and community compost biker and strongly believes in the potential of equitable and reflexive community academic partnerships. In their free time, Adrian enjoys spending time with their dog Guava, volunteering at local farms, and reading Octavia Butler for guidance on all things.
