Research
My name is Daniel Rivas, and I’m from Guayaquil, Ecuador. My research interests are paleopathology, human migration, cranial modification, and iconography in ceramics. For my master's thesis, my project focused on porotic hyperostosis and a probable new cause for ancient populations on the coast of Ecuador. In my latest research, I studied the representation of power and gender in Manteño and Huancavilca ceramics, resulting in the correlation between age and status inside male figurines, while females had very little representation in these cultures. For future research, I will apply molecular analysis to understand pathologies, nutrition, and migration flows in past Ecuadorian indigenous societies during the pre-Columbian period.
