Informed by my many years of community organizing in Indianapolis, my research interests are guided by the communities of color who mentored me on the praxis of abolition, anti-racism, and liberation. I am interested in creating a practice for physicians and other healthcare workers that is informed by a radical abolitionist lens. The following questions will guide my work: How have radical communities of color interacted with medicine and healthcare professionals?
What does it mean to abolish structures of violence (like prisons) as a form of healthcare? How do providers organize with their patients and alongside their communities to transform society? What is abolitionist medicine? As healthcare personnel, is it possible to provide equitable care in our current medical system, or must we work outside these structures to protect the health of communities?
